Freshman: Nov. 2, 2011

.

Today we're digging into MLA format. You have three options. Pick the one that will help you fill in the gaps in your knowledge. If you have extra time, you may do additional options for more credit.

=========================

Option One, What to quote, what to quote:

Go HERE then click on "You Quote It, You Note it."

Do the entire activity (the parts that aren't blocked). Open Microsoft Word and write a one-page-maximum description (in MLA format) of what you've learned. Quote as necessary. Save and email me (as an attachment) your response to the address over there in the sidebar-------------->

=========================

Option Two, Cite this:

Look at UI's library website's MLA citation examples. Take all their examples and arrange them properly in a Microsoft Word document. (Should look something like THIS.)

Save your works-cited page and email it to me using the address over there in the sidebar-------------->

(Don't forget your real name, monkeybot77@yahoo.com.)

=========================

Option Three, Welcome to Purdue:

Purdue's Online Writing Lab (OWL) is one of the best resources online for learning MLA. Go to the front page of their MLA stuff. Explore.

This is the most loosey-goosey of the three options which means it has the most potential to be helpful but is also the hardest to get full credit for.

Essentially what I want you to do is this:

Make a Microsoft Word document in MLA format in which you describe the sorts of information OWL offers and practice using it. I don't have a specific endproduct in mind for this option which means you'll need to be thoughtful and creative in deciding what to write about and how to write about it.

When you're done, save your document and email to the address in the sidebar-------------->

ATTENTION ALL:

Next Tuesday we will be in this computer lab again. It will be the ONLY OTHER DAY we will be in the lab before all your Animal Farm stuff is due. Plan to use that time wisely.
